Ariellalphabet’s Week- Jim Carrey Films, the Sheffield Vintage Fair and Battlestar Galactica

This week has been super fun, even if the for the first half of the week I was plagued by snow! However, with snow comes the excuse (like I need an excuse!) to watch lots and lots of films with my housemates. From Monday to Wednesday Daryl and I got through D.A.R.Y.L., The Green Hornet, The Breakfast Club, G.I. Joe, Star Trek, Brave, Me, Myself and Irene, the Scary Movie Quadrilogy, Yes Man, and finally, Flubber. It’s been a pretty varied mishmash of films (both in variety and quality. I really didn’t enjoy Green Hornet at all) but I’ve finally had the chance to watch The Breakfast Club, a film I’ve been wanting to watch for a very long time now. As well as watching lots of films, I’ve also been watching a lot of TV series! I’ve been working through series five of Supernatural with Daryl, and on recommendation from my Twitter friend Jen, I’ve started watching HBO drama Girls.  Despite knowing very little about it before I watched the pilot, I really enjoyed it, and I can see a lot of myself in the characters (in particular Shoshanna, although I’m not sure if that’s a good thing!) but overall it is a very good series, and I got emotionally invested in it very quickly. Also, as Jen mentioned in her blog about it, the clothing and fashion the girls wear look amazing, and the programme itself feels very 'real'.

My GameBoy necklace!
This week has been pretty big for me in terms of buying a lot of new stuff. I got hit with the shopping bug earlier this week, and I’ve been going crazy! I’ve picked up two new graphic novels (EmiTown Volume One by Emi Lenox and Lenore: Swirlies by Roman Dirge. Both stellar titles!) and I finally had the chance to check out the big Blue Cross sale in HMV, where I picked up the first series of 2 Broke Girls for a very reasonable price. I’ve spoken about my love of 2 Broke Girls before on this blog, but even with rewatching it gets funnier! While I was in HMV I had a major struggle to not buy an adorable Princess Peach keychain which was also pretty cheap, but I managed to hold off… For now! I also ordered an amazing Gameboy necklace from the Facebook page Pixel Princess, who makes the cutest geeky jewellery! I plan on ordering more things from her in the future as the necklace was well made, got here in plenty of time and looks amazing! It’s been a pretty good week for getting comics too, with Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie coming out, as well as the newest issue of Bedlam by Nick Spencer and Riley Rossmo. I’ve managed to get my housemate Daryl hooked on Saga, Morning Glories and Bedlam as well, so it’s been a pretty good week! Next week I’ll be picking up Glory #32, and I’m thinking of dipping my toes into Sweet Tooth by Jeff Lemire. No Marvel titles for me next week!

The second half of this week has seen me going all over. On Friday I travelled back home for the day to visit my family (and surprise my best friend Lawrence at work!) so I more or less walked across my hometown twice, which was exhausting! I had a good catch up with my Dad (despite him scamming me into buying him a cup of Earl Grey in Costa Coffee!) where we chatted mostly about films, my blog, comic books and his current random hatred towards Batman. After spending an hour talking to him, I’m still not sure why he hates it! I also gave him the final volume of The Boys, and his face lit up like a kid at Christmas! It was brilliant. I spent the rest of my day at my Grandma’s and at my Auntie’s, having more catch-ups and discussing when I’d be back again to visit, which will hopefully be next week!

On Saturday, my friend Gina came to visit me for the monthly Sheffield Vintage Fair, and it was definitely an experience! I was accidentally twenty minutes late meeting her at the train station due to my buses being cancelled (or delayed, I’m not really sure!)  and having to power walk down from where I live to the station, which is and was no easy feat, especially in melty, slushy snow. I’ve never been so thankful for owning a pair of Doc Marten boots! Sorry again Gina for being so late! When we finally got to the vintage fair at about half twelve, it wasn’t too busy, so we had a good chance to look around for some vintage goodies until one, when I got a vintage makeover courtesy of the lovely ladies of Le Keux Cosmetics & The Vintage Salon! I got a taster makeover session, which involved having my hair put in victory rolls and getting my make-up done in 50s style. It was so amazing! I’m definitely getting the makeover at the next vintage fair! After my makeover, Gina and I headed out to get some dinner, and unsurprisingly, we wound up in Bungalows and Bears, which is my favourite place for food in Sheffield! After dinner, we headed out again into the cold and we planned on going back to the fair, but the queue was enormous! So instead we wandered around town for a bit, and I convinced Gina to buy an adorable yellow Mario Toad from HMV, which matched the bag she’d bought earlier. While we were out in town, I got some pretty funny looks and overheard one person say to whoever she was with: ‘It’s a 40s hairstyle!’ to which I was tempted to reply that I was a time traveller… Or something silly like that. An hour or two later we finally managed to get back into the fair and I had a bit of a jewellery shopping spree. I picked up an adorable cat-eared ring, a Pacman ghost necklace, and two hairbows. Then, I came across the Pièce de résistance-  a pair of cat-eye styled sunglasses! I have been lusting over a pair of them for ages now, and I finally have some! To everyone that knows me offline, this summer you will rarely see me without them. Be warned! While Gina and I were wandering around scoping out more vintage treats, we were approached by Ally Waring, a local budding fashion blogger who took our photo for her blog, which you can find here. It was such an amazing experience, and Ally couldn’t have been nicer. Gina and I had an amazing time at the vintage fair, and we’re definitely going along to the next one, and we hope to find some more amazing things.
My goodies from the Vintage fair!

Now, I’m having a lazy Sunday, and preparing for my uni course starting again tomorrow. I’m finally starting the screenwriting segment of my course, and I couldn’t be happier! I’ll also be watching the last few episodes of series two of Battlestar Galactica with Robin, before we get started on series three. I love BSG so much!

  1. Oh I'm happy you liked Girls! I've watched the first 3 episodes of season 2 and it's good so far!

I'm always amazed at how much you watch, read, and get done in a week... you motivate me to do the same! haha.

And I'm happy to know the Pixel Princess jewelery is good quality. I've been eyeing up some of their stuff.
