Ariellalphabet’s Week- They Told Me Singin’ In The Rain Would Never Be The Same Again, They Were Right

Sorry about the super-delayed Ariellalphabet’s Week, it’s just this week has been crazy busy. That crazy, I might even call it cray-cray. All craziness aside, it’s been super fun, despite barely having chance to rest!

Lawrence & me!
On Monday, I carried on with my screenwriting seminars, and we looked at creating characters for our screenplays which make up part of our all-important assignments. However, at 11AM on a Monday morning, I was not the most creative of people, so my character suffered somewhat! After my seminar, I headed off to the train station. Because my university timetable has changed, I have a really weird week- Monday, Wednesday and Friday I’m in uni, Tuesday and Thursday I’m not, so I decided to make the most of the time I had off! After waiting at the train station for a freezing cold forty-five minutes with nothing more to do than read a really vacuous, arduous magazine I picked up from WH Smith, I was finally on the train and heading back home again! When I got back to Gainsborough, I met up with my good friend/cohort Aaron, and his friend Rob for a cup of tea in Costa, followed shortly by cupcakes and sweets in Tesco cafĂ©. Our meet-up consisted of the most vicious and loud game of Zitch Dog we’ve had in a while (I may have bellowed ‘ZITCH DOG!’ across the shopping centre in Gains. Whoops!) as well as a good catch-up and general trading of insults. I hung out with Aaron and Rob for the better part of the day, and tagged along to the Trinity Music Scene meeting that was happening that evening. Sadly, we had to cancel the event we had planned, and instead started planning something special for the summer. Hopefully it won’t get cancelled! After that, I headed up to Tesco again to meet my best friend Lawrence, and we headed back up to his to get ready for dinner. We finally decided to go out to a fairly new restaurant that had popped in Gainsborough during my absence, and I have to say, it was pretty good! Once we’d got back from dinner, we spent a fairly chilled evening in watching random stuff on TV and catching up, because there was a lot for us to catch up on!

My cat Jackson!
After spending Monday with Lawrence and my friends, I decided to spend Tuesday afternoon and evening with my family, so I trekked across town and headed to my Grandma’s, where she gave me a bag of biscuits and made me some dinner. I’m not sure why, but it’s been a pattern of the last few times that I’ve been home where I’ve come back with something completely random. Last time it was a bag of cous-cous, this time a bag of biscuits, I dread to think what’s next! Anyway, after a brief chat with my Grandma, I headed off to my Dad’s. while I was there, we discussed my Dad’s still on-going hatred for Batman, my plan to get business cards, my blog, comic books, and finally… My Dad’s weird views about kid’s programme, In The Night Garden. According to him, the opening is reminiscent of Stanely Kubrick’s directing style… I don’t see it myself! Also while I was there, I had the chance to see my kitties again! Unsurprisingly, they were their usual selves- chubby, fuzzy and adorable! I ended up giving my Dad an early birthday present- in the form of Volume 12 of The Boys. I had planned on getting him Warren Ellis’ new book, but I guess I don’t have to worry now. I also came back from home with a graphic novel called Mazeworld, which is a collection of 2000AD stories, and it’s pretty good! I plan on writing up a review at some point soon, so keep an eye out! I came back on Tuesday night, tired, full of biscuits and tea, and spent the night reading Mazeworld and listening to quite possibly the weirdest conversation on Xbox Live ever, held by my housemates. Even they don’t know how they got on those topics!

Zombies!!!
On Wednesday, as part of my film narrative section for university, I watched Singin’ In The Rain. After watching A Clockwork Orange the Saturday previous, to say I was conflicted is about right! However, I did really enjoy it, and spent the better half of the day humming Singin’ In The Rain, and trying not to think about A Clockwork Orange. Wednesday was also a pretty good day for comics, and I picked up Snapshot #1, Fionna & Cake #2, and Daredevil End Of Days #5, which is a series I desperately want to write about but wouldn’t be able to without spoiling the hell out of it! As usual, Eleanor came up for House Game Night, although we played less games than usual- a round of Zombies!!! Was followed up by watching comedy/sci-fi Paul, and then Eleanor headed back to hers.  We spent the rest  of the night playing Halo and reading comics, which is pretty typical of our house at any time!

Thursday was nice and relaxed, thankfully! It felt like I’d been firing on all pistons all week, so it was nice to relax for a bit. However, I was playing the waiting game with the postman. My housemate Robin, who is a filmmaker and film-student, ordered a super-fancy camera to do his work on, but sadly, the delivery is taking a bit longer than he’d hoped, so me, him and Daryl have been regularly playing the waiting game with the postman. Sadly, the postman doesn’t come at any regular during the day, so we’ve been waiting from 10-3 most days! However, I used this time the best way I could, and wrote up a few articles for ComicsCrux, including one about My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. I never thought I’d see the words ‘bronies and pegasisters’ underneath ‘written by Ari Carr’! I also wrote up my responses to the Liebster Award, which had been sent to me by the lovely Lolita girl LizJuice, so I took the perfect opportunity to drink plenty of tea! Also, because neither Daryl or I could be bothered to cook anything substantial, we ordered pizza and watched a couple of episodes of Supernatural! We’re finally making headway through series 5, and despite not being overly keen at the start of this series, I’ve been enjoying it much more, and I’m loving Castiel! I also got volume 2 of the brilliant Emitown through the post, and wrote up a review of it. I love autobio comics so much, and Emi’s really is something special.

This is now a pretty common sight!
On Friday, for the first time since I’ve lived here (and it’ll be five months next week) I walked to and from university. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a good half-an-hour/forty five minute walk, up and down hills and it is super tiring! However, walking down isn’t too bad, and I walked down with Robin, who surprised me in telling me that a friend of ours had popped down for a surprise visit during the night! As for university, I watched a brilliant Michael Caine/Laurence Olivier film called Sleuth, which was the biggest game of cat and mouse ever. It was very enjoyable, and had me sat on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing! In the Performance and the Big Screen seminar afterwards, we looked at the acting of each in a more magnified level, which was very interesting. When I (finally!) made it home on Friday afternoon, after recovering by drinking a lot of tea, we played board games and had a good time! Robin also picked up a version of the camera he wanted from uni, so he spent a lot of Friday night taking pictures and testing settings. I’m now getting used to turning around and having a big ol’ camera in my face!

On Saturday, we were up bright and early (against our will!) when Eleanor  and our estate agent turned up at 10 to arrange signing contracts, discuss when the new sofas were turning up, and general housey stuff. Once everything had been signed and the estate agent left, we discovered that Eleanor hadn’t seen Firefly! So after a quick trip to Asda for snacks, we marathoned all but one episode, in a glorious flurry of Nathan Fillion, awesome sci-fi, and the best way to kick off a tenancy. Saturday also marks the second time I had take-out pizza, as Eleanor ordered for us so we could continue the marathon. Saturday was fun!

On Sunday I went out with a friend to go and see Wreck-It Ralph, which had been released over here in the UK earlier this week, and I loved it so much. It had the best game cameos, and an awesome soundtrack. I really enjoyed it! I’ll be writing up a full review at some point this week as well, so keep an eye out for that too. After seeing the film, we went out to Pizza Hut (take-out pizza three times in a week! It’s safe to say I’m staying away from it for a bit!) and I had the best margherita pizza. I’m super picky with pizza, so I usually just stick with plain, but it is super nice in Pizza Hut. After getting back, Daryl, Robin and I watched a few episodes of Supernatural, until in a freak prank, we caused a snowball fight inside the house! It had been snowing for the better part of Sunday, and it had settled a fair bit too, so at 11 at night, Robin, Daryl and I decided to have an hour-long snowball fight which was ridiculously fun! Robin got some pretty good photos, including one of me on Daryl’s shoulders trying to write something on a sign. It’s Tuesday as I’m writing this, and my arms and legs are still aching from it!

So, it’s been a busy week for me! Hopefully this week will be less busy!

Thanks for reading!
