Day One: Your first comic book
My first comic book (that I remember getting- or in this case, being given) was Fantastic Four #229 (Doug Moench & Bill Sienkiewicz), gifted to me by my best friend/housemate/partner in crime Robin. After I told him I'd watched the first Fantastic Four film and wanted to read more comics, he delved into his collection, and came out with this fairly battered, yellowed comic (Which is now safely tucked in a bag) which I now treasure. Shortly after this, Robin and I went to our old local comic shop (a pretty small place in Lincoln) and I was ridiculously lucky enough to find Fantastic Four #228! Since then, I have never seen any other issues from that arc, so I still barely know what's going on!
I hope you enjoyed my first day of the 30 day comic book challenge, be sure to check back tomorrow for more!

My first comic was X-Men #1. I remember going to a local hobby shop with a friend of mine so he could pick up some pewter miniatures that he enjoyed painting. May have been Warhammer. While he browsed for the ones he wanted, I wandered around the store and found a rack of comic books. There it was. Jim Lee's amazing art caught my eye and I was hooked from the first page. Cyclops quickly became my favorite mutant and the art was so awesome that I had to make a trip to the actual comic book store to find more X-Men comic books!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, great choice! Jim Lee's art on that series is beautiful!
DeleteMy first comic was, I think The Amazing Spider-Man #3, Canadian Editions. It had a bout with Green Goblin and featured The Toronto Blue Jays! Everyone at my school got a copy, and while it's been lost to time (couldn't even find the cover online), it was the book that hooked me to the web spinning, wall crawler and I immediately ran out, picked up some Web of Spidey titles, Action Comics and Ghost Rider, which I devoured! Great blog Ari!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I'm jealous. That sounds amazing! Thanks for the kind words!
